The sheep of Alta Langa

The Murazzano sheep is an indigenous breed from the Langhe region, located in the northwest of Italy, in Piedmont. This breed of sheep is closely linked to the dairy tradition of the area and plays a fundamental role in the production of the famous Murazzano cheese.

Murazzano sheep are medium-sized and are distinguished by their rustic and robust appearance. They have a triangular-shaped head, with lively eyes and medium-sized ears. The main characteristic of these sheep is their dense white wool, which is also used to produce fine fabrics.


 The Murazzano sheep is best known for its ability to adapt to the harsh climates of the Langhe, where the pastures are characterized by hilly terrain and selected vegetation. This natural resistance and its grass-based diet give the milk of Murazzano sheep a particularly rich and aromatic flavor, which is reflected in the cheese produced.
